Katie Kam

Founder & CEO of BioBQ

Katie Kam, PhD, PE, is the founder and CEO of BioBQ, a cultivated meat company based in Austin, Texas focused on producing whole cuts of popular BBQ meats, starting first with beef brisket. Her role at BioBQ builds on 25-years of cumulative experience as an engineer (MS and PhD), engineering business owner and research professor, community planner (MS), science teacher, chemist (BS), and biologist (BA). She's been involved in the cultured meat industry since 2018 and has years of experience with multi-disciplinary projects, research, and navigating regulatory processes. The common thread in all her roles is to create a more compassionate and sustainable world, especially through collaboration, entrepreneurial pursuits, and creativity. As a vegan, she sees cultivated meat as the win-win solution of providing consumers the meat they demand without the harm to the animals or the environment.
